What a terrible thing...

I hold my chubby 3 month old  in my arms, her eyes pure and white, her cheeks shiny and round. I look up to the TV, towards the sound of a child crying...the news anchor had warned that the images 'could be disturbing...There's a child sitting on her mother's lap, hanging limp from her mouth, is her mama's breast...she is so weak, sucking those few drops of milk will take more energy than she has...
As I write this, I hold my baby to my breast. They are swollen full of milk. My feezer is full of milk as well...What a terrible thing, to have so much when there are children dying in this country, with nothing to fill their stomachs with. '...the last relief food came 4 months ago...' they report.
The world is alarmed at the hunger 'scandal' going on in Kenya! How telling that despite the many months the media has highlighted this issue, it is still not a priority for the government even as organisations such as the Red Cross are in the media calling out for help for the children who are dying each day.
Surely! How much more desperate does the government want this to get? This is murder, plain and simple.
So what are you going to do about this?

I expected a lot more...

We happily took the son there. It was perfect! Close to home, a seemingly serious investment, built from scratch, interesting desks and lockers, based on Christian principles. It looked promising! And we thankfully enrolled young Robert there start of this year.
I should have noticed the trend then...end of term one holidays there was talk of tuition...which was not compulsory. Come end of term two, we get a “Dear parents...” note, kindly telling us about some two weeks tuition after the school term, and guess what?! Of course we have to pay some KSH 2,500 for the lower primary classes! Worse still, baby class is also expected to attend.
I nearly blew a gasket! A fellow parent tells me that we parents against the idea of holiday tuition are probably the monority. Apparently, most want their children out of their hair! Hell, what are they supposed to do with them for four whole weeks over August hols? Huh?
And here I am thinking, I get to see my son briefly at the end of the day as we do homework at marathon speed then I hound him to eat and make it to bed before 8pm. And all day Sato and Sunday too. But surely, is this supposed to be enough?
Then, when I’m looking forward to spending each day with him over the hols, doing fun stuff and zurura-ing to all sorts of surprise places with him, they want to take him off my hands! Comón now! That ain’t gonna happen on my watch!
And I thought this money-making venture a.k.a holiday tuition, was outlawed!
I’m very disappointed Madam Principal!

I'm so disappointed...

By you Mr Speaker Sir.
Really, I thought he was a fair, just and honest man...I am so disappointed! Who ever thought there'd come a day when there would be a choice between paying or not paying ones taxes? ...At least for the more equal among us!
This 'paying taxes' issue is bringing out peoples' true colours. While the ones who think they are clever are using this as milage...Kwani you forget 2012 is some 6 months or so away?
Hmph!

What kind of a friend am I...

If I invite you to a party at this ultra posh apartments, where, I'm guessing, all sorts of expensive alcoholic beverages and liquors are flowing and with a VIP guest to boot. Then we all proceed to get high as kites, you an a cocktail of the said alcoholic beverages and Almighty knows what else...then, at the height of your drunkeness and in a stupor no less, after making a nuisance of yourself breaking glasses, mirrors and whatever else that catches your fancy, I let you stagger out of the apartment and go home...or so was your intention...
Little wonder you end up dead on a busy and dangerous highway.
What the hell was I thinking!!!
